Batteries and Laptops

Ok, so the new 17″ MacBookPro has a built-in battery. From what I can tell this has generated a lot of virtual ink. Personally I think this is a good idea for a number of reasons.
First is that the battery can be a lot bigger thus can last a lot longer. This is a big deal, the current batteries in Mac laptops last about 3 hours, whereas the built-in battery last between 7 and 8 hours (this needs to be independently verified though). This means that I wont have to carry a spare battery with me when I take those long haul flights.
Second is that it is no longer up to the consumer to dispose of old batteries which means that fewer will wind up in landfills which is a really good thing. While this requires trusting Apple to dispose of used batteries correctly (I am sure there are a battery of federal regulations covering this), I trust Joe-the-consumer a lot less when it comes to disposing of used batteries.
Third, and this is purely esthetic, the bottom of the laptop will be smooth, no lines or breaks.
What Apple has to work on though is providing in-store battery replacement by appointment rather than having to send your laptop away.
