Google phone

There has been lots of speculation about an upcoming Google phone (the gphone as it has been called).

Giving all this speculation a new twist, the NT Times has published an article collecting what little information there is out there about this device. All this was also picked up by SearchEngineLand and Paul Thurrott.

Of course all this is speculation, but what strikes me as sensible is that Google is developing some sort of mobile phone (or device) operating system along with whatever software needs to run on it, and will offer this package to cell phone vendors.

The one point which sticks in all this is the idea of a free cell phone powered by ads. I am sure that some people would be interested in this option, but I can’t say I would.

Whatever happens, it will be interesting.
